FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Frontiers in Ornithology Symposium comes to Hockessin, Delaware
The Frontiers in Ornithology Symposium is returning to Hockessin, Delaware on November 4, 2023, with a stellar cast of presenters who will cover all aspects of careers in ornithology and related pursuits.
The Frontiers in Ornithology Symposium is an event for youth ages 13-22 and their mentors.
The primary mission of this event is to focus on ornithology, conservation science, and related academic pursuits. The symposium focuses on cutting-edge technologies used in avian research and study, careers in ornithology, and how to pursue that focus in higher education, vocationally, or avocationally.
The symposium’s goal is to educate and inspire youth to take their passion for birds to a higher level through keynotes, speakers, networking opportunities, workshops, and new friends.
“This symposium is an incredible opportunity to learn from the experts and leaders in ornithology and avian science,” said Claire Wayner, a youth keynote at the first symposium.
The 2023 Frontiers in Ornithology keynote speaker is Dr. Viviana Ruiz-Gutierrez, who has an inspiring list of titles including Co-Director of the Center for Avian Population Studies; Leader of the Conservation Science Program; Executive Director of the Coastal Solutions Fellows Program; and Senior Researcher at Cornell University.
Two youth keynotes are also headlining the symposium: Brooke Goodman, a Gero Fellow in Science Research at the Schoodic Institute, using bioacoustics to monitor avian community response to restoration efforts in Acadia National Park; and Jonathan Irons, who has worked and volunteered in a range of research-related capacities throughout Maryland.
A dozen other talented speakers round out the lineup for the symposium with topics such as cutting-edge bird monitoring technologies, writing for conservation, and how bird studies orient conservation efforts.
The cost for youth to attend the one-day symposium is $35. A massive amount of support from sponsors and donations help make the event affordable. Registration is limited and expected to sell out for the event.
